      F. C. MOHR INSTANTLY KILLED
On Wednesday morning about 7:30 an east bound extra freight train drawn by engine 174 overtook a handcar containing John Ostrand, section foreman, and six men employed on the section, while on a long trestle about 3 1/2 miles east of Cheney. The engineer whistled as he came rushing around the curve about 500 feet distant and the men slackened the speed of the handcar and all except one managed to climb out on the ties far enough to clear the train, but Fred C. Mohr, who occupied an awkard position on the handcar, facing the approaching train, was the last to leave the car and was struck and instantly killed, his body being found lying face downward fully 75 feet from the place where the handcar was struck.

Fred Mohr was a good workman and had only been working with Foreman Ostrand since Monday, and evidently lost control of himself in the fateful moment.

Mr. Ostrand had no knowledge of the extra and was past the middle of the trestle when the train whistled and in a few seconds had reached his men.

The body was brought to Cheney at 11:45 and Coroner Baker held a preliminary examination in the afternoon. An examination of witnesses will be had soon to determine whether any one was criminally negligent in the matter.

Wendelin Schneider, formerly residing near Cheney, but at present living at Julinaetta, Idaho, and Charles Hamilton of Kendrick, Idaho, are brothers-in-law of the deceased, and James Bartoff of Kendrick, Idaho is an Uncle.

Deceased was a young man and unmarried, and was a friend of the family of J. L. Edgerton and spent the evening before his tragic death at their home in this city.
